Harrison, who was made aware of his selection a few weeks ago, was surprised to get the call.
"It came as a bit of a shock," he said.
"They just rang me a couple of weeks ago and said they were sitting me on the panel.
"I think it just gives more of an opportunity to potentially go to an Australian Country carnival, but now that I'm on the panel I'm required to do one Sydney first grade game a year.
"I'll take this now and see what happens in the future."
Harrison will join fellow Riverina umpires Tony Hackett (Wagga Wagga), Ken Brooks (Albury) and Neil Smith (Albury) on the 12 umpires selected for the high-performance panel that services Country Cricket NSW representative programs.
"I have umpired a few carnivals with those guys, and they are a great bunch of blokes who I have learnt a lot from," he said.
"In saying that I have also learnt a lot from the guys who I umpire with here in Griffith as well."
Harrison is elevated to the panel as a result of strong consistent performances in the Griffith District Cricket Association where he officiated First Grade Finals in 2018-19 and 2017-18.
He has officiated two matches in Premier Cricket First Grade, including a game featuring Australian opener David Warner, and last season umpired at the McDonald's Country Colts carnival in Bathurst and was appointed to the Bradman Cup in Albury Wodonga before it was abandoned due to the bushfires.
