The almost 14-year-old singer and guitarist has performed for many different events, including last year’s MyFest concert, a local production of Beauty and the Beast, Carols by Candlelight, as well as entertaining retirement homes, busking and school concerts.
MyFest was definitely a highlight for her, to be performing with other talented MIA musicians.
“It was good seeing everyone having the opportunity to go up and play, and to be up there with them was amazing,” she said.
She says she lives to see the enjoyment on people’s faces when she performs.
“Being able to meet people and perform for them. I go to retirement homes and play for them, and just to be able to see people enjoying my music, it’s a great feeling.”
“They are all really happy to hear me, because I play songs that they knew when they were younger, and it brings back memories for them, songs like Jolleen, Jonny Cash songs, Time Of Your Life, those kind of songs.”
Being able to meet people and perform ... to see people enjoying my music, it’s a great feeling.
- Emily Adamson.
While playing the guitar for around four years, Emily has always been a singer, serenading the houses she walked by on the way to school when she was little.
Emily says she will always love singing, however guitar gives her the opportunity to try different genres, catering to her love of learning complicated things.
“I love to play everything! I’ve done finger picking, rock style and chords, but I would say rock in my favorite, because it’s so interesting to be able to learn the chords figures, it’s not just simple chords.”
“At the moment the Foo Fighters are my favorite rock band, because their songs are really cool, especially Learn to Fly and Everlong, which I play.”
She hopes to continue performing well into the future, either as a solo artist or as part of a band.
“I want to go out, go to pubs and places, both in a band and as a solo artist. When you play by yourself, you can play with the timing and put your own spin on songs without having to worry about other people.
The experience of playing with other people, she says, helps her learn and improve as a musician.
