Gianni Chiappin is a drummer-clarinet player extraordinaire.
Picking up the drum sticks for the first time three years ago, he can now play any song he can sing to.
As his mum says: if you can sing it, he can play it.
“I really love playing the drums because if you are angry, you can just let all of your anger and makes you feel so much better,” he says.
In what he says is something different, playing the clarinet also gives him a thrill.
“I wanted to play the clarinet because it’s something different, and I like doing things that are different from the usual,” he said.
At 10 years old, he already has plans to join a band with his friends.
“Me and some of my friends want to start a band. It would be really cool to start one,” Gianni said.
When asked who the other members were, he said there were three others but not a singer, but at this stage the trio aren’t putting out applications for a lead singer.
“We don’t have a singer yet, but that’s OK, we just want to be an instrumental band anyway.”
His musical inspiration in Bruno Mars, and hopes to be at the same caliber one day.
“My favorite song is definitely ‘Up Town Funk’ by Bruno Mars, I love it because it’s really funky.”
While he hasn’t had any performing experience as of yet, he said it was something that he looks forward to doing in the future.
He also has a sister who plays the piano, and while at this stage the pair didn’t have a repertoire, he hopes to one day play together and become a musical family extravaganza.
As for his future, Gianni doesn’t really know what his plans are at this stage, but he can picture himself playing the drums and clarinet well into the rest of his life.
In every Wednesday edition, The Area News will be dedicating an article to a budding young musician to celebrate Griffith’s home-grown talent.
