The 11-year-old has been playing since Term 2 with around 20 lessons under his belt, and he hasn’t looked back.

With his sticks in hand, Fabien performed his drum solo and got all the feet tapping and the heads nodding to the beat.

Fabien Davidge was inspired to play the drums after seeing drummer Gianni Cocilova perform at Saint Patrick’s School.

However he recalls having a little toy drum kit when he was younger, and his enjoyment of this also inspires him to play now.

With an absolute love of Angry Birds Movie, Fabien hopes to one day learn his favorite song Friends by Blake Shelton, which features in the movie.

“My second favorite song is Can’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake, which is in the movie Trolls,” Fabien said.

He loves playing drums because of the sound and shape of them.

But his favorite part piece of the whole kit is the ‘tom-tom’ drum.

“I like looking at them and playing them, it’s really great,” Fabien said.

While the kit at his school is red, he says he likes his kit at home as well, which is blue.

“I really like that it’s blue, and it sound’s really good when I practice.”

Otherwise known as ‘The G’, Fabien’s inspiration and now teacher Gianni said helping Fabien learn the drums has been extremely fulfilling.

Even though he has been learning for less than a year, Fabien’s sight-reading is progressing at light-speed.

“In my mind I have some pretty big goals I can see him achieving, and I’m excited to see him get there,” he said.

“It’s so rewarding to see him playing and enjoying it.”

Fabien’s teacher’s aide Alissa Woodhouse said playing the drums made Fabien light up the room.

“He is just doing so well, and it has blown me away at how well he has taken to it.

“Especially with the sight-reading,” Ms Woodhouse said.

Fabien says he hopes to still be playing when he reaches the ripe old age of 47.

So it sounds like there’s no stopping him now.
