The talented women's rugby player has been selected in the Melbourne Rebels squad for the upcoming season, and it came as a surprise to de Meyer.
"I originally just put in my interest just to go down and learn some skills and things like that," she said.
"There were quite a few girls from Brisbane, WA and even some girls from South Australia. From a squad of 65, I wasn't really expecting to get selected.
"The hard work has just begun, but I'm looking forward to going and developing and then hopefully learning some skills and drills that I can bring back here for the junior girls as well as the women's."
Griffith has been a breeding ground for success at the top level for females in recent years with the likes of Lele Katoa and Lauretta Leo-Seve, who have featured in the NRLW competition, as well as Amelia Lolotonga, Fapiola Uoifalelahi, Eliza Baddock and Ua Ravu, who have all represented at a high level.
De Meyer feels that it is a shame that selectors often forget about the country areas because there is a wealth of talent in the country.
"We definitely have the skills and the talent out here," she said.
"Travel also makes things tough, but it comes down to who wants to put in the effort.
"Definitely proud to be a country bumpkin out in the big smoke."

Griffith Blacks supporters won't have to travel far for the potential to see de Meyer's first outing in Rebels colours with a trial game in Albury on Saturday, February 12, when they take on the Brumbies.
While de Meyer is planning on making a move to Melbourne permanently, she said she would still try and come back to help the Blacks where possible.
"I will still try and show face and help out the girls and pass on some different drills and things," she said.
"Hopefully, it will open some other peoples eyes because we have some very talented players not only in the women's but also in the juniors coming through, so maybe it can show that the pathway through the Brumbies isn't always the best route, and you can open yourself up to different opportunities.
"Hopefully, I can make the Blacks and Griffith proud with what I achieve."
