The snap lockdown by the NSW Government on Saturday afternoon forced Football Wagga to call off the weekend's games, starting with the third grade men's competition that was due to kick-off that afternoon.

Football Wagga are to hold a board meeting on Monday night where they will discuss the state of play, but concede there is little they can do for the time being.

"We normally have a board meeting (on Monday night), we'll still do that by Zoom, because there is a few other things that we need to go through but in reality, we're no different to any other sport, we can't do anything until we find out," Football Wagga president Tony Dobbin said.

"It's when we find out. And obviously in the Riverina we haven't been in this position before so we don't know whether the government will say on Thursday if all goes well, yep you'll be right for the weekend, we don't know if it's 4pm on Saturday that they announce yep it's for another seven days or what happens.

"So all we can do, like everybody else, is to wait and try and see if there's any earlier indications other than before the seven days is up."

Dobbin said if the lockdown is lifted, they will push ahead with the resumption of the season on Sunday and they would explore contingencies for Saturday competitions.

"We'd just push ahead like normal," Dobbin said.

"There's options within options but at the end of the day I don't want to be playing our grand finals on Christmas morning. We have to pull up stumps somewhere."

Football Wagga is better positioned than most other Riverina sporting codes after making the decision just a week ago to extend their season into October.

The grand final weekend was moved back three weeks, to October 16-17, due to washouts, something Dobbin says now could prove to be a blessing in disguise.

"We were lucky," he said.
