It was a close-run battle with Richards taking out the vote just three ahead of Coro Cougars captain Haydn Pascoe.
When you look at the stats from Richards this season, it isn't a surprise as he finished well ahead of Pascoe in the run-scoring.
The Diggers captain finished with 576 runs which featured two hundreds and four fifties, at an average of 65.56 and also picked up eight wickets with the ball at an average of 17.88.
Pascoe didn't go home empty-handed as he was not only named as captain of the Team of the Season but was also given the skippers role for the Team of the Decade.
Meanwhile, for the second season in succession, Joe Catanzariti took out the Umpire of the Year.
Noah Gaske took out the Spence Trophy for best player under 17, while Guy Kelly was rewarded with his dedication to junior cricket with the Trent Young Trophy.
