The Hanwood side currently sits in fourth position, and while captain Charlie Cunial is happy with his side's progress, he knows there is still room for improvement.
"We have played some good games, but it has been hard to get into any sort of rhythm with all the games missed," he said.
"We haven't been able to bunch of games in a row, so we have been a bit inconsistent, but I am happy with how we have been going."
One of the major improvements from the Hanwood side has been their ability to see off the new ball with minimal damage thanks in large part to consistent performances from Oliver Bartter.
"We have been able to get past the first seven, eight, nine, ten overs without losing wickets," he said.
"I know a lot last year we would have been two or three down a lot of the time whereas this year we have been one down or none down which has been really good.
"Oliver has been really able to take another step forward this year.
"You could see him finding it a bit last year, and with a few more games under his belt he is looking really good."
The return of Luke Docherty to the club after a couple of seasons of grade cricket in Sydney has also had a great impact for the club both on and off the field according to Cunial.
"He has been really good, and I'm really happy to have someone like Luke in and around the group," he said.
"He has been able to take a bit of pressure off me. He has been helping out a lot around the club with juniors and has helped out Catty (Dean Catanzariti) a bit as well.
"It has been really good to have him back."
This weekend will be the first time the two teams have played each other in the first grade competition with the other two games falling victim to washouts.
"We aren't really sure what to expect," he said.
"Obviously they are struggling a bit this year, but we know with Exies it is always going to be a tough matchup."
Exies are currently 15 points behind the fourth-placed Hanwood side so the 10 points on offer would help to close that gap and give them a chance of reaching finals.
First ball will be bowled at Exies Oval at 2pm.
