With Hanwood heading into the weekend, two points behind second-placed Leeton United but are only two points ahead of Wagga United who is sixth.
One thing working in Hanwood's favour is their superior goal difference which is second-best in the league, and coach Anthony Agresta knows that could be crucial.
"It always helps, and if you are looking at the ladder this year it is looking pretty tight come the end of the season," he said.
"Like anything, if you take your chances, you generally win games."
With the tight battle for finals places, Agresta is expecting to come up against a desperate United outfit.
"You can see even with their result last week they went down to 10-men midway through the first half and they led pretty much the whole game," he said.
"I think Young only scored in the last couple of minutes.
"We definitely won't be taking them lightly."
Agresta praised the way his side has been able to put away the half-chances in recent weeks and hopes they will be able to continue to make the most of every opportunity.
"It is something that we have been doing well of late, even on the weekend the chances we had we were able to take and a few of them were half-chances especially Chimo's (Michael Cimador) goal on the weekend," he said.
"He was on the turn and sort swivelled and hit it, and it came out of nowhere. They are the sort of things that can win you crucial games.
"I think defensively, we were really good as well."
Heading into the weekend, Agresta is hopeful he will have almost a full squad to pick from with a couple of players including leading scorer Daniel Johnson nursing knocks after last week's game.
"There were just a few bumps and bruises, and you just have to nurse the guys through it," he said.
"A lot of the time they don't want to be missing training but especially coming into this time of the year you don't want to be taking chances.
"If anyone isn't 100 per cent we won't be taking any chances. Danny coped a bit of a knock to the ankle, but I spoke to him last night, and he said he'd be fine."
