Coach Luke Santolin said there were 'worse ways' to start a competition with the Yoogali also keeping the visitors scoreless.
Santolin said they had played the team last year and lost and spent some time preparing for the game once the draw was revealed.
"We thought we'd had an idea of what we were facing, so we prepared as underdogs," he said.
The beauty of State Cup is that you don't know who you're going to play until you kick off.

That preparation paid off with Yoogali scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes.
Mitch Bagiante scored the first three goals and then a fifth, while Anthony Martinello scored one off a free kick outside the box.
During the first half Santolin said Ropes Crossing troubled them with a few free kicks, but the Yoogali defence was able to hold firm.
"We played the same shape we have had for the last five years and put an emphasis on defence," Santolin said.
"Clean sheets is always a bonus."

For Santolin the win was good, but there were other reasons to celebrate with Yoogali SC fielding one of its most experienced sides.
"We had a 52-year-old in the starting line up, a 45-year-old at centre back, a 40-year-old at left back and a 39-year-old on the right wing," he said.
"It's a once in a lifetime line up where we had the most experienced side, it was a positive day for the club when we had these veterans lining up."
The next round will involve a trip to Sydney and Santolin said the team won't find out who their opposition is until the draw is made up.
Whoever they play, preparation will be key.
"We always go out with the same intensity regardless of who we're playing," Santolin said.
"The beauty of State Cup is that you don't know who you're going to play until you kick off."
