Griffith singing star and The Voice contestant Ben Sekali joins the schools on stage, and relives his years of KROP – the production he performed in since year 6 celebrating Education Week at Griffith Regional Theatre.
Check out our sneak peak of Griffith East Public School’s performance in the video below:
KROP festival co-ordinator Robyn Schmetzer says in the past, there had been a focus on dance routines, but this year schools have heavily incorporated singing and instrumentals into their acts.
“It’s going to be brilliant. For Ben Sekali, KROP has been a platform where he did his first performances, and he helped arrange some of our finale pieces and arrangements of the music.
“We have a wide range of acts, with some focusing on deeper meanings, like how to deal with anxiety, and how we need to hold on to the light.”
“It’s got that great feeling to it, and it is so empowering – while the world brings us down we can choose to go towards the light.”

Other acts include Yanco Ag with their drum corp, who have added a twist with glow-in-the-dark sticks, joining other schools who are really playing with light.
Wade High School’s piece is based on Alice in Wonderland, and it is self-choreographed by the girls from year 7 to 9, and is set to be a “pretty” piece, Ungarie has a brass and wind band, and Kalinda also have a show-stopping act.
Performances will be held on August 7 and 8 with tickets selling out fast – so secure your seat by contacting the Griffith Regional Theatre.
“It’s not just a show to come and watch you child, its a show to come and be entertained. And its good family entertainment,” Ms Schmetzer said.
