It was yet another nail-biter in GDCA first grade involving Hanwood, except this time it was Leagues who were able to come away with the points on Exies No 2.

The Panthers won the toss and elected to bat, but it was the Hanwood side who had the upper hand early, with Josh Carn (1/15) picking up the wicket of Michael Cudmore (1) while Luke Docherty picked up the wickets of Logan Matheson (9) and Jimmy Binks (0) to have the Leagues side sitting on 3/15 after seven overs.
Reece Matheson and Mark Burns tried to get their side moving in the right direction and were able to put on 25 before Burns (8) was caught off the bowling of Angus Bartter (1/21).
Jack Rowston and Matheson were able to keep the scoreboard ticking over, with Matheson leading the way with a 40-run stand with Rowston before Sam Robinson struck to remove Rowston (9).
Wickets started to fall in quick succession once again as Noah Gaske (0) was run out while Billy Evans (4) and Shae Prudham (0) fell to the bowling of Robinson (2/17) and Dean Catanzariti (1/24), respectively.
Hamish Gunn held up an end with Matheson raising the bat for his fifty before he was caught off the bowling of Docherty.
Docherty (4/9) picked up the final wicket of Joe MacGillivray-Reeves (5) to see the Panthers bowled out for 110 in the 30th over.
If the Leagues side were to continue their winning start to 2022, they were going to need to bowl well and pick up early wickets.
Evans did just that to pick up the wicket of Oliver Bartter with the first ball of the innings and then followed that up with the dismissal of Dean Catanzariti (0) with back-to-back wicket maidens and have Hanwood sitting on 2/5 after three overs.
Pardeep Deol and Corey Graham tried to get their side moving in the right direction with a 27-run partnership with Gaske picking up the wicket of Deol (6), who was caught by Jack Rowston, while Graham (13) fell three balls later when he was caught by Evans off the bowling of Binks.
Charlie Cunial and Luke Docherty were the next pair to try and get their side on track to chase down the total, with their side needing 78 runs off the remaining 163 deliveries.
The fourth wicket pairing got their side to 57 before trouble struck once more.
Gaske (3/25) struck to remove the dangerous Docherty (11) and Cunial (12), while Binks (2/10) knocked over Taranjit Mankoo (2) in between to have Hanwood struggling on 6/66 after 26 overs.

Angus Bartter (4) and Gulfam Ahmed (0) fell to Evans (4/12), meaning it would be down to Robinson and Carn to get the remaining 24 runs with nine overs remaining.
The pair gave the chase the best effort, with Robinson (28) leading the way before Reece Matheson took the final wicket to see Hanwood bowled out for 105 with 5.2 overs remaining.
The result doesn't have too much of an impact on the table, but Leagues have closed the gap to fourth-placed Diggers to 10 points.
Meanwhile, at the top, Hanwood remains two points ahead of Coro due to both of the top two teams dropping points this weekend.
Leagues take on Coro next weekend while Hanwood face Exies Diggers.
