COVID is the gift that keeps on giving to the sporting sides from Griffith and the surrounding areas, with the restrictions that brought an end to the winter sporting season now causing delays in the summer sports from starting.

This weekend should have seen the start of the GDCA season, while the Griffith Touch season would have been nearing a start point as well.
However, with community sport once again not included in the updated roadmap for 70 per cent double vaccinations, sportspeople looking to get back into their sports will have to wait until the state reaches the 80 per cent double dose mark.
The added headache for organisers is that all players 16 years and over will have to be double vaccinated before they are able to play.
This will effect the GDCA first and second-grade competitions mostly, and GDCA president Tim Rand has put a few options to the club to cover issues of player numbers due to the requirement.
"We would have to try and get numbers from the clubs and see if we can run both grades or perhaps up second grade on hold and just run the first-grade comp," he said.
"The other alternative would be to just start in December, but that isn't the preferred option. It wouldn't be good for the players who just want to get out and play.
"We don't want to be in a position where teams are having to forfeit because that isn't fair to anyone and isn't a good look for the competition."

The December option would allow for all players to return as restrictions are lightened, even for those who are unvaccinated.
Rand wanted to stress to the clubs that they only needed to provide numbers so they could plan the way forward with a meeting to be held to work out the way the season will start once an announcement is made around the 80 per cent double vaccination rules.
Meanwhile, Griffith Touch is awaiting further instructions from the NSW Government and any changes to the Public Health Order before making a decision on the start time for their summer competitions.
They will be holding a meeting towards the end of October, where a decision is likely to be made.
