A three day event celebrating the rich culture and heritage of Italy is heading to Griffith this August, showcasing the tastes, sights and sounds of Italy over one exciting weekend.
With 60 percent of Griffith's population able to claim Italian heritage, it is the perfect location to host a festival honouring and celebrating Italian culture, traditions and history.
A Taste of Italy will feature will feature many local Italian traditions, showcasing authentic Italian culture and providing visitors and locals alike with a complete and memorable weekend in Griffith.
After being cancelled in 2020 due to coronavirus restrictions, community members are eagerly anticipating a weekend of Italian indulgence come August.
At the 2019 event alone, accommodation in Griffith sold out, demand for flights was doubled and an estimated $800,000 was injected into the local economy from visitors and local spenders.
Griffith Tourism Manager, Mirella Guidolin said that the weekend would be a memorable and immersive experience of all.
"A host of Italian themed events and experiences have been planned for the whole family to enjoy so pick up a program from the Griffith Visitor Information Centre" Mrs Guidolin said.
The weekend will kick of with the Ferragosto Festival Dinner Dance at Yoogali Club which will see attendees revel in a scrumptious four course meal and an evening of authentic Italian entertainment.
Come Saturday morning, Banna Avenue will be hosting a sidewalk sale where local producers will be selling Italian wares where you can shop until you drop and indulge in a macchiato and cannoli and support local business like the La Piccola Grosseria.
From midday, the Griffith Italian Festival will be in full swing at Yoogali's Yellow Tail Park and promises to provide an afternoon of music, dancing, wine and lots of fun.
Local cellar doors will also be offering tastings of Italian wine varietals but if you would to experience more you can book in for the long Sunday lunch at Calabria Family Wines or De Bortoli Wines to transport yourself to Italy.
No matter what you choose to do, the weekend will be able to offer something Italian for everyone said Councillor Christine Stead.
