The annual festival was due to celebrate its 22^nd year but continued restrictions and a desire to not scale down the event has lead organisers to pull the pin.

In a statement, local organisers Roy Catanzariti and Nigel Ippoliti expressed their disappointment in the fact the beloved event wouldn't be going ahead.

"The current situation with COVID-19 hasn't allowed us to plan for the event that we want to hold for the salami festa ... so the committee has decided to cancel the festa for 2021," the pair said.

"As you can appreciate this event takes a lot of planning and a lot of people to make it happen, and the continuing situation with COVID-19 doesn't give us the confidence to hold the event."

The organisers advised that any reserved tickets that may have carried over from last year's cancelled event would be refunded.

But as the pair learnt last year, the cancellation of the festival is not enough to stop Griffith's passionate salami makers from showing off their talents.

Once again, the organisers will be hosting a best home made salami competition in an effort to not let to best slices of salami go undiscovered.

Mr Catanzariti hinted that esteemed salami experts from across the country could be coming in to judge the event.

More information on the competition will be released over the next few weeks, Mr Catanzariti advised.

The double cancellations of the festival will no doubt be frustrating for the 1200 people who dined and danced at the 2019 event.

More than 140 teams entered the competition that year, with salami makers from Italy and Australia alike vying for the coveted first place title, which eventually went to Griffith's Frank Sergi.
