Heading into the clash Tolland was sitting just a point ahead of the Hanwood side in what is turning out to be a closely fought contest over top spot.
The match showed just how closely matched the sides were, according to Hanwood coach Anthony Zuccato.
"They were a great opposition, and they weren't on top of the ladder for no reason," he said.
"We drew with them last time we played them over there, so we were hoping that being at home, we could get the win, and we did. Both teams played brilliantly."
Tolland had some of the better chances in the first half, but the Hanwood defence stood tall, and when they were beaten, Maree Cirillo was able to prevent any shots from finding the back of the net.
The home side found its way in behind the Tolland defence a couple of times, with the best chance falling the way of Johane Oberholtzer, who saw her shot drift just wide of the far post midway through the first half.
The sides entered halftime level, and it looked destined that the sides would share the points with both keepers able to deal with the shots coming their way.
There was to be one last twist in the tale however as after Hanwood won a corner in the dying stages of the game, Oberholzer was able to pick out Tara Ceccato at the far post, and the Hanwood top scorer made no mistake to give her side the lead with just five minutes remaining.

Tolland was able to mount one last attack at the Hanwood side, but they were able to hold on and jump into first place with the 1-0 victory.
Zuccato praised the work of his backline in securing the three points.
"The defence and midfield is what won us the game this week," he said.
"We had a few chances, but they were few and far between, and their keeper made some good saves."
There was one concern to come out of the win for the Hanwood side, with midfielder Alana Marando forced from the field after a head knock in the second half.
Hanwood takes on local rivals Leeton next weekend.
