The clash for first place was the first game of the day out at the Springs, and it lived up to the billing as a tight clash.
Both sides crossed for two tries with James Fallon and Dean Taylor getting over for the Rabbits while Jardin Morcome and Nathan Brettschneider for the Bluebirds, but it was the kicking of Goolgowi's Jono Morris that made the difference as he kicked a crucial penalty goal to hand the Rabbitohs a 14-12 victory.
In the second game of the afternoon, Narrandera was able to break their duck for the season with a 26-22.
The Lizards were able to race out to a 16-0 lead at the break and held off a charge from Ivanhoe to take the four-point win.
Ronald Bamblett crossed twice for the Lizards and was joined by Malek Afuamua, Jack Cooper and Corey Prior, while Jonathan Hart, Luke Clarke, Conrad McGinty, Mark Huntly and Brenton Kitson scored for the Roosters.
