This years theme is Heal the Country, a theme of which calls for all Australians to come together and call for stronger measures to recognise, protect and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.
The week was planned to start with an official NAIDOC week flag raising ceremony at Griffith City Council.

Mayor John Dal Broi previously told The Area News that Council recognised the importance of Aboriginal people in the history and growth of Griffith and its surrounding villages.
"We also acknowledge the Wiradjuri people as traditional owners of the land and waters and pay respect to Wiradjuri elders past, present and future," said Councillor Dal Broi
"NAIDOC week is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together in a positive way to recognise the enormous contribution that Indigenous Australians make to the community."

Griffith Aboriginal Medical Service were planning on hosting a Family Fun Day at Griffith Leagues Club and a NAIDOC Awards night to commemorate the week.
"With the current COVID restrictions in place we have postponed both events to hopefully later in the year around September" said Business Manager Duncan McWhirter.
According to the Griffith Local Aboriginal Lands Council, the planned Ngumbaay-dyil Day at Yarrawarra Park and Kids Disco have also been postponed indefinitely.
