Inspector Mark Griffith from the Murrumbidgee Police District that the aim of the amnesty was to significantly reduce the number of unregistered firearms in Australia and improve community safety.
"The amnesty will provide an opportunity for those individuals, who for whatever reason, are in possession of an unregistered firearm or firearm related article to surrender, register or supply the items, without fear of prosecution," Inspector Griffith said.
Prohibited weapons and accessories such as gel blasters and silencers will also be able to be surrendered without fear of prosecution.
"I appeal to any person in possession of a firearm unlawfully to take advantage of the Amnesty and hand the firearms in to a participating dealer or local police," Inspector Griffith said.
For those not wanting to attend a police station, individuals in possession of unregistered firearms will also be able to surrender them at Riverina Hunting and Fishing on Banna Avenue and Accuracy Matters on Summers Street.

Owner of Riverina Hunting and Fishing, Glenn Castellaro told The Area News that he welcomed to move to make a gun amnesty permanent after two successful amnesty periods in recent years.
"In both recent amnesty periods we have had between 500 and 600 unregistered guns handed in to us which is great to see," Mr Castellaro said.
"If anyone in the community has an unregistered gun don't be scared about coming into us to dispose of it.
And if it isn't worth being registered we can also help you dispose of it safely too."
