A Griffith man has awoken to a nightmare scenario, leaving his bedroom to find his home ransacked and his car destroyed.

At some point between 12:30am and 2am on Thursday, the man's Coolah Street home was broken into, with the unknown offenders making off with his power tools, toolbox and $36,000 Toyota Hilux.
Police and fire crews were called to Whitton at about 2:26am, where the ute had been found "well alight" on Whitton Road, more than 35 kilometres away from Griffith.

The blaze was extinguished by RFS crews however the vehicle was destroyed.
At 4.20am, police tracked down the owner of the vehicle, who had remained asleep throughout the ordeal and was unaware his home had been broken into.
Police say it appears someone removed the glass and fly screen from his garage window and that was likely how they entered the home.
Investigations are continuing.
