Benerembah Lane residents received a rude awakening on Wednesday morning when a car was set alight in the laneway, sending smoke billowing down the street.

Griffith fire crews were called to the section of the lane between Walla Avenue and Murrumbidgee Avenue at about 6:31am by concerned residents, as the flames approached the sheds on the side of the laneway.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the car for the next 30 minutes, however the vehicle was ultimately destroyed.

Griffith Police are currently investigating the blaze and have contacted the resident who they believe to own the vehicle.
No one was injured in the incident.
