A Griffith farmer has been left puzzled following the disappearance of about 40 goats from his property.

The herd of boer goats was last seen in a large paddock on the farmer's Brogden Road property in Benerembah - about 26 kilometres west of Griffith.
On May 25, the owner of the property had been intending to bring the goats closer to the main farm house due to a rain forecast. However due to other commitments he was unable to do so.
When he returned to the paddock at 9am the next day the herd was nowhere to be seen.

The farmer checked his fence lines, which do not suggest the goats have been stolen, and reported the incident to the rural crime investigations unit.
Neighbours say they have not seen the goats.
According to the farmer, the herd is made up of about 40 boer goats of various age and sex as well as one boer billy goat. One of the goats has a green management tag clipped to its ear.
Boer goats commonly have white bodies and distinctive brown heads.
The farmer told police the herd is worth about $6000 in total.
