A first-half double to Chaise Donetto set the Hanwood side in motion, while a goal to Daniel Rogato saw the visiting side leading 3-0 at the interval.
Wagga United was able to pull a goal back midway through the second half after a long-range shot found its way into the back of the net before United score again through a set-piece.
The Hanwood side was able to move to six wins from as many games as they held out to take the one-goal victory.
Hanwood coach Brian Bertolin was pleased with how his side accounted for the tough test from United.
"It was a pretty good game actually Wagga United played really well," he said.
"They were a decent team, and it was good to have a tough match.
"We were really sharp in the first half and probably dropped off a bit in the second half. Wagga United kept coming at us."

The other pleasing aspect to the game for Bertolin was the game tested their depth, but they were able to show their side isn't just built around one of two players.
"We ended up missing Danny (Johnson), Joey (Schirripa), Blake Potts were all out today, and Jordan Austin was away as well, so we had four regulars away today," he said.
"We aren't built on one or two blokes, but we are good as a club, and that first half they really showed it.
"We had to get a couple of second graders to step up, and they did a really good job.
"The first two goals were really good just the way they were passing the ball among themselves, and then the finishes were first class.
"A bit disappointed we didn't go on with it in the second half, but it was good to get the points."
