The team at the Griffith Carevan are holding a fundraiser raffle in November with the goal to purchase a replacement vehicle to perform the vital role of preparing and distributing meals for disadvantaged people in Griffith.
For many residents the Carevan and the volunteers behind the service has been the difference between a square meal and going hungry.
The caravan which was originally donated second hand to the Griffith Carevan, has been a trusty member of the team for more than six years but being over 30 years old, the time has arrived for an upgrade.
"We are looking at a good quality second hand Iveco high-roof, long-wheel vehicle which is roughly $30,000," Janice Sartor, co-ordinator of Griffith Carevan said.
A raffle is being launched to raise funds for the purchase of a new van with prizes totaling over $4000.
People wanting to purchase tickets should keep on eye on the Griffith Community Centre Facebook page for upcoming details.
Grant applications have been submitted, however Mrs Sartor explained certain grants depend very much on how much they are able to raise through the raffle.
Carevan, which is 100 per cent community funded, delivers approximately 120 meals to alternate locations around Griffith and this particular caravan has shared in many good memories for the team and the people they serve.
"Last year we had more than 200 people together for a Christmas Party at Dave Taylor Park and we are hoping we will be able to do the same into the future," Mrs Sartor said.
It is still to be determined how the old caravan will spend its 'retirement', with a number of future possibilities being considered for use in the community.
