So far, no businesses in the city have been fined for breaching NSW public health rules put in place for the COVID pandemic.

NSW Health, SafeWork NSW and Griffith police have power to formally warn and fine businesses and individuals who breach the state's public health orders.

"Generally we've found people are co-operating and complying," Murrumbidgee Police District Superintendent Craig Ireland said.

"I would like to compliment the community on their efforts.

"But there is that worry that people will become complacent so we have to stay on top of it.

"Where there's an outbreak, people are on high alert, but we've had it pretty good so far."

Superintendent Ireland said there had a number of warnings had been given for "technical" issues relating to signage and COVID check-in sheets.

He said once police conducted an inspection of a business, they would return to follow-up a number of times before shifting to formal warnings and then fines depending on the specific issues.

"What we don't tolerate is repeated non-compliance," Superintendent Ireland said.

A SafeWork NSW spokesman said staff had inspected 13 businesses in Griffith but had not issued any fines or written warnings.

"All licensed venues were satisfactory," the spokesman said.

"Ten businesses were provided with information and education surrounding the latest COVID public health orders."

Murrumbidgee Local Health District's public health director Tracey Oakman said environmental health officers were making weekly inspections.

"To date the Murrumbidgee Local Health District Public Health Unit has not issued any fines or written warnings to businesses for breaching the Public Health Orders," Ms Oakman said.

"We have taken an educative approach with businesses, supporting them to meet the requirements of their COVID safety plans.

"We continue to work with partners including SafeWork NSW, local council and Department of Primary Industries to support businesses to ensure they are COVID safe in their working practices."
