There are currently only three points separating Henwood Park in first and Hanwood in fifth, but the bottom of the table is also congested.
Hanwood coach Anthony Agresta knows a win is critical this weekend.
"We are definitely going to need to get the three points just to keep touch with the rest of the top four," he said.
"If we had of taken the result last weekend, we could have nearly found ourselves on top, but instead we are sort of languishing around the fourth spot. It is a pretty important game."
Agresta feels this could be the way the season shapes up with little separating most of the teams and feels it could be a close fight for the finals positions.
"You can see that it is pretty wide open," he said.
"You can see that anyone on their day can beat anyone and results have been a bit all over the place.
"Apart from Henwood Park and Leeton had that one slip up but they have done pretty well so far.
"Every team is pretty even, and if you don't take the chances, it's going to come back to hurt you."
This weekend will see Daniel Rogato missing as he becomes the third Hanwood player to pick up a hamstring injury following on from captain Anthony Agresta and Sevi Tropea.
Agresta feels this could be a common sight this season.
"I think it is going to be a bit of an issue with a limited pre-season and anyone that is prone to those sort of things," he said.
"I know Daniel (Rogato) has had some issues with things like that in the past it's probably not ideal, but that is the way it is this year, unfortunately."
In positive injury news, Agresta is hopeful that his captain will be back on deck for the for this weekend's game.
"He (Agresta) didn't train last night because he ended up being a bit sick over the weekend," he said.
"He said he was feeling a lot better and that he'd be good to train tomorrow (Thursday) night and he should be right for the weekend."
Hanwood's clash with Tumut will get underway at 3.30pm at Rawlings Park 1 on Sunday.
