While the lead is reasonably comfortable and both are performing strongly, anything can happen in a competition, a fall, missing a week, so the competition is not over until the final one or two runs.
A pleasant surprise was to see former Feral's John Zampiere and Andrew Pitcher taking a walk on the Hill last Saturday. John has his name 27 times on club trophies including nine straight wins in the Winter competition from 1984 -1992.
Life member and former club president Adam Johnson who now resides in Coffs Harbour returned for a run on Saturday in full Feral uniform.
Back to the champions of today, 98 Feral's took part in the virtual race four with 31 achieving a PB, just proves that winter provides ideal conditions for a high-performance running.
Sonia Casanova was placed first in the long course followed by Shaun Flood and then Adrian Baird. Flood recorded the fastest time for race four and has risen to 3rd fastest for this course.
In the long course, Aidan Hill has recorded the fastest time 22.48 minutes, just 6 seconds faster than Aidan Fattore in second place. Both Hill and Fattore have a 19-minute handicap, potentially providing much interest to spectators when we return to normal Saturday runs.
Angus Munro was first in the short course followed by Alex Gullo and James Morshead. A strong PB from both Chloe Morshead in 4th place and Cooper Savage in 5th place has resulted in them remaining first and second in the overall short course competition.
Gerry Wilcox forgot to bring his watch, so he borrowed Jeremy's monster watch, the problem was that the weight of the watch caused him loose his balance along the track.
"Included a good tumble with bark off knee and forehead plus a few bruises," he said.
"Jeremy kindly pulled me up and off I went to discover my forefinger was numb. Gave it a bit of a rub and it snapped back into place so must have been dislocated."
A second injury occurred when Brendan Sinclair rolled his ankle, Brendan abandoned the long course and limped home on the short course.
The most consistent performer must go to Donna Jackson. Three weeks in a row she has recorded 1.16.00 hours for the long course. Maybe she just sends in the same Strava record week after week.
On the 25th June, subject to Covid19 restrictions Feral's will have the choice of continuing virtual runs or returning to normal 4:30pm Saturday runs.
With upwards of 90 participants in the last few weeks, social distancing and hygiene are of paramount importance.
Please check the website for changed procedures for weekly running. If you are not feeling well, please don't come to the Hill.
