The AFL Riverina board met on Monday night and decided to delay the start to the 2020 season by a week.
It did, however, introduce the AFL Riverina Championships that will be played for this year.
It will begin on Saturday week, July 25, subject to government advice, and be a composite competition made up of Riverina and Farrer League clubs.
Both the Riverina and Farrer League competitions were due to start on Saturday, but the withdrawal of several clubs over the past week forced AFL Riverina to come up with new plans.
Riverina and Farrer League clubs will need to let AFL Riverina know by Wednesday if they are willing to participate in the championships.
The Farrer League was cancelled last Friday after the withdrawal of Coleambally and The Rock-Yerong Creek, joining Barellan as clubs who have decided to sit the year out.
East Wagga-Kooringal and Charles Sturt University have subsequently withdrawn also.
Narrandera and Griffith have withdrawn from the Riverina League.
It leaves eight Riverina League clubs, including Osborne, plus four Farrer League clubs that could potentially play off in the championships.
The large majority of Riverina League clubs want to push ahead with a season, while the Farrer clubs are much more lukewarm.
North Wagga and Marrar have both scheduled meetings for Tuesday night to decide their position.
AFL Riverina has scheduled a media call for midday on Tuesday to formally announce their decision, and explain the reasons behind it.
Both junior competitions will start this weekend as scheduled.
