In November, police noticed a black Toyota LandCruiser driving erratically around Griffith.

Two men were seen in the car, with the passenger holding up a mobile phone in full view of the officers. Police started following the vehicle from Widgelli through Griffith, at one point witnessing it speed up to 115 kilometres per hour in a 60km/h zone, hitting a high of 140km/h.

The Toyota nearly hit the police vehicle on Blumer Avenue, and officers officially commenced the pursuit.

The chase was called off when the Toyota began undertaking other traffic.

During their investigation, officers were told Kane had taken the vehicle that morning.

The next day, police stopped the same vehicle leaving what they described as a "known drug location" being driven by Kane.

When police asked him about who was driving the night before, he said "mate I don't know", telling them "yeah I wouldn't have a clue mate... I honestly don't know."

Searching the interior, officers found a knife, and secret door compartments holding a glass pipe used for smoking 'ice', two empty clear resealable bags, and another containing 0.3 grams of methyl-amphetamine.

Kane's legal representative Olivia Harris said on Wednesday his criminal history was "somewhat problematic".

She said he had made significant efforts to remain drug-free before these charges, resulting from a "hurdle on the road" in curbing his addiction.

Magistrate Joy Boulos said it was clear he suffered from "peer pressure" in relation to his offending.

"You don't want drugs to take over your life again do you?" she asked Kane.

He was convicted of all charges, given a nine-month supervised community corrections order for refusing to disclose driver's identity, a $200 fine for possessing drugs, and a further 12 month corrections order for possessing the knife.
