Searching him, officers also found several mail slips and a new bank card in his bag that weren't in his name.
The 37-year-old man was seen leaving the first store at a Griffith shopping centre on Saturday with a bulge in his pants, which the store attendant believed to be items of sportswear.
The man refused to take the items out from his pants when asked and left, going to another shop in the centre.
He grabbed a pair of red and blue sandals and a packet of Bond's socks and left without paying for them.
Making his way to Banna Avenue, the alleged thief was captured on CCTV cameras stealing men's and women's Joop perfume at a chemist.
A member of the public saw the man walking on Benerembah Street and called police, who arrived shortly after and arrested him.
The man refused over five requests to place his backpack on the ground.
He denied doing anything wrong when police told him he was under arrest for shoplifting.
