Temperatures in the region are due to drop from the 40 degree mark consistently seen since Boxing Day on New Year's Eve, with New Year's Day also due to mark a further decrease in the temperature.
The new year will be brought in with a maximum of 35 degrees in Griffith, however residents looking to spend the day out in the sun have been reminded to use a form of sun protection between 9am and 5.30pm on New Year's Day, with the UV Index predicted to reach an 'extreme' rating of 13.

The mercury will begin to rise again on Thursday before breaking the 40 degree mark once more on Friday, with a high of 45 degrees predicted for Griffith on Saturday.
