The Blueheelers were able to strike first with Tumokai Poka getting over the line in the early stages of the first half, but the Roosters pulled level heading into the break with Jake Whyman getting over the line to make it 4-4 after the opening 35 minutes.
A smart piece of play from Zac Whitworth saw him place his own grubber into the post and he was able to gather the rebound to give his side the lead which was then doubled when Tevita Mahe made a dart from dummy half to score.
Trailing 16-4 with under 20 minutes remaining, the Roosters needed to score next, and with Victor Ward able to get over the line the gap was reduced to just a try before Yenda pushed it out to eight points with a penalty goal to Billy Hale.
A great solo effort from Whyman saw him score his second try of the afternoon after he was able to cut back on the inside and break three tackles before eventually getting the ball down to bring the margin back to just two points with 10 minutes remaining.
Ben Mahon barged his way across to hand the Rosters the lead for the first time in the game with five minutes left, and they held on to take the four-point win.
