When the first preference votes came in it was a nail-bitingly close call between Glen Andreazza at 3213 votes and Damien Marcus at 2490 votes.
The next two runners up are Bill Lancaster with 2078 votes and Greg Adamson with 2069 votes.
Since nobody had enough first preference votes to be declared the winner, it will come down to the distribution of preferences.
The preference votes will be counted at the Returning Officer’s office, and once a final tally has been reached the winner will be announced on the NSW Electoral Commission website.
With both Mr Lancaster and Mr Adamson preferencing Mr Marcus on their how-to-vote cards, it is looking as though it will a toss-up between Mr Marcus and Mr Andreazza.

But with two very strong candidates in the lead it’s looking as though it will be a positive outcome either way.
Both of Mr Andreazza and Mr Marcus are active participants in the community, and they all have a long and well-known track record of advocating for the people of Griffith.
Mr Andreazza said that he couldn’t have got this far without the loving support of his family.
“I’d just like to thank all my family for what they’ve done over the last two weeks,” he said.
“I also appreciate the outstanding response from the community, who seem keen to see a new face in council.”
Greg Adamson was also grateful for the support of his friends and family who cheered him on every step of the way.
“With the by-election over I would like to thank all those that helped me over the past few weeks and those who voted for me,” Mr Adamson said.
Bill Lancaster said both Mr Andreazza and Mr Marcus would make excellent councillors.
“No matter who wins, people should be pleased with the result,” he said.
