A dollar can go a long way to helping a person in need.
CanAssist are asking ask members of the community make a gold coin donation to help raise money for people living with cancer as part of their Circle of Gold fundraiser.
Hardworking volunteers took to Griffith Central Plaza on Thursday morning to kick start the fundraising efforts.
CanAssist provides support and assistance for people living in regional and rural Australia across the country.
This year marks the tenth anniversary since the first event was held.
Can Assist Volunteer Betty Wallace says money donated by Griffith people stays in Griffith.
“It all stays in town. It all goes toward helping people in our area who are living with cancer,” she said.
“The money goes toward helping people with things like airfare or electricity bills.”
The aim of the game is the fill a giant, outline circle.
“We try to fill the circle in with gold coins – but people have been putting in notes, which is even better,” she said.
Running for close to 10 years, at last year’s estimate the Circle of Gold had raised close to $40,000.

Last year alone they raised around $9000.
“It might only seem like a dollar or two, but it really does go far when you think about it.”
The committee has also approached businesses in Griffith to leave one of their gold tins on their counters.
Volunteers will be at Griffith Central Plaza between March 1 – 3, selling raffle tickets.
