Less than a year ago youth mental health service Orygen found youth suicide in Australia was at it’s highest in a decade and, although young men still have a higher rate, the female suicide rate has doubled over the past 10 years.

I love the way Jesus would make a big deal of the poor and every “nobody”, but showed disrespect to the powerful and the nasty, sometimes by not even dignifying their questions with an answer.
I think there is a lesson here.
Often when I’ve talked with someone struggling with mental health, even suicide, they’re ignoring the most important people in their life and making a big focus on the nasty people who are ALWAYS the minority.
When we focus on the nasty people in our life, we make them the most powerful people in our life too.
This can get dangerous.
Anyone can be tempted to end it all.
But suicide is a long-term solution to a short-term problem.
So you’re thinking, “It’s never going to get any better soon, and there is nothing I or anybody else can do to fix the situation”.
Is that really true?
Is there “nothing” anybody can do?

Do you think it is “always” going to be like this?
Of course not.
There’s always something someone can do.
No matter how bad this winter in your life is that you are in now, it’s going to come to an end.
Winter always ends; even if you do nothing.
And besides, in your pain now, God is building you for your future joy for the Bible teaches death was never even part of God’s original plan for humanity.
We never appreciate real joy until we have experienced real pain.
If there was no such thing as darkness, would we know what sunshine was?
If there was no such thing as winter, would we even recognise summer?
Suicide is the number one best way to reward your enemies and punish your only true friends.
As a wise person told me once, “love your enemies, but surround yourself with those who love you, and give love in return”.
Don’t try and be more Christian than Christ.
You can’t be everybody’s friend, and you don’t want to be, because you’re going to have enemies.
Why?
Because some people aren’t worthy of your friendship.
Stop wasting your time trying to give it to them and give your friendship to those who are worthy of it.
