After many months of preparation, the much anticipated Griffith Spring Fest is finally here with two weeks of events featuring something for everyone.
The festival kicked off with the construction of the Real Juice Citrus Sculptures, to be followed by open gardens, cooking demonstrations, gardening walks and talks, an Italian dinner, markets and a multicultural festival.
Chairman of the tourism management committee councillor Christine Stead said the Festival of Gardens Working Group had been hard at work.
“Last Sunday more than 700 volunteers came out to erect the 70 citrus sculptures and they look incredible lining our main street,” Cr Stead said.
“To really enjoy the sculptures you need to have a walk around. It’s only then that you appreciate the scale and size of these creations and the talent in our wonderful community.
Using over 100,000 oranges, the display is becoming known as the most unique outdoor exhibition in Australia.”
Friday kicks off part two of Spring Fest with the arrival of Kitchen2Garden ambassadors Phil Dudman and Julie Ray.
Eight gardens will be open across the weekend, with most offering café-style catering.
Griffith City Council event co-ordinator Karly Sivewright said a garden bus tour was available.
“For just $60 per person you will be escorted to four gardens where you can sit, relax and enjoy the atmosphere,” Ms Sivewright said. “Lunch is included.
“The tours are a great way to be part of the festival. Bookings are essential.”

The Spring Fest launch party kicks off on Friday at 5.30pm, featuring food, wine, live music and children’s activities, against the backdrop of the citrus sculptures.
“We decided to do things a little differently this year and have created an event the entire family can enjoy,” Ms Sivewright said. “This is a great opportunity to explore the sculptures, sample local wines, taste the paella, participate in a range of kids activities and be entertained.”
Chairman of the Festival of Gardens working group, Cr Rina Mercuri encouraged people to book a seat for the Long Italian Table dinner, taking place Saturday night.
“The dinner is always a popular event, a wonderful, relaxing and entertaining evening – with amazing food and wines, it is a perfect evening under the stars,” Cr Mercuri said.
“On Sunday you can head to Griffith showgrounds from 8am for the Spring Fest Spring Market, featuring a range of stallholders.
“There is so much on offer this weekend, get out and enjoy Spring in Griffith!”
