Statistics released from NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research show Griffith is on par with state averages from June 2016 to June 2017.
Despite the spate of steal from motor vehicles in the last few months, the Griffith Local Government Area has actually seen a decrease in steal from motor vehicle incidents in the current 12 month time frame in comparison to last year.
Inspector Wayne McLaughlan from the Griffith Local Area Command was pleased with the statistics.
“We are always focused on driving down all crime in the community, so to have statistics that reflect that aim are encouraging,” he said.
Figures show a 30.6 per cent decrease in the number of reported steal from motor vehicle incidents in Griffith since 2016.
“It is always great to see these trends reducing, but police will always be monitoring it ... we encourage motorists to ensure they lock their vehicles and not leave valuables in their car,” Inspector McLachlan said.
Griffith rates just above the average number of reported incidents across NSW, only by a slight 1.4 per cent.

“Our goal is to have no domestic violence in the community and we are working with various sections and members of the community to reduce domestic violence,” Inspector McLaughlan said.
While this decrease is on par with the state as a whole experiencing a steady decline in domestic violence, Griffith once again ranks above the average with a 2.2 per cent higher.
The trends show retail theft from stores in Griffith is also down 27.6 per cent, which is only 1.6 per cent above the state average.
Last year had 181 reported incidents of thefts from retail stores, compared to 131 in the current 12 month time frame.
