This year’s Miss Showgirl, Laura Cameron said she was surprised to be chosen.
“It’s honesty surreal. I feel like I’m not only representing the Griffith show as a whole, but also young women in Griffith,” Laura said.
“I am surprised, as Phoebe is such a great person and I honestly didn’t think I could compete with her.”
With a lot on her plate, being the secretary of the Griffith show as well as a showgirl entrant, Laura says she’ll try to get through the day, and then look forward to the upcoming events.
“I’m off to zones later in the year in Hay, which is pretty exciting, to verse all the group nine girls, which I’m sure will be lovely.”
What excited Laura most about being Showgirl is getting to meet new people, gaining more experience with more in-depth interviews.
“I’m going to meet lots of girls with the same ambitions as me, and I think that’s fantastic as a whole.”
Laura couldn’t have been more pleased with the turn out, although hopes more girls will get involved.

Last year’s Showgirl, Sarah Conrad passed on some words of wisdom for the newest Griffith Showgirl.
“Be confident. Remember your manners and etiquette, brush up on your agriculture and any agricultural issues that are going on at the moment, especially in the Riverina region, and definitely think about your town and how you can be the best ambassador for it,” Sarah said.
This year there was a notable family feel to the competitions, with six of the competitors coming from the one family.
The matriarch of this family, Carol Collier, was as proud as punch to have her six grandchildren in this year’s competition in Griffith: Jack, Isabelle and Annie Villa and Lara, Emelia and Elise Collier.
“I am an absolutely a very proud grandmother today,” Mrs Collier said.
This is certainty keeping it all in the family, Mum Renae Villa was Griffith Showgirl in 1996.
“It’s just great for the kids to be involved in the community, it’s a great experience for them and I’m just glad they can be a part of it,” Mrs Villa said.
