A FAMILY tragedy has led Brad Lawrence to set the goal of riding from Griffith to Cobar to raise money for Cancer Council and batyr.
After losing his mum to cancer in 2015, Mr Lawrence took steps to change his lifestyle so his child would not have to go through the same difficulties at an early age.
“Mum was only 56 when I lost her to cancer,” he said.
“After becoming a father for the first time, I realised I should make some lifestyle changes.”
Since then Mr Lawrence has started training with fitness fanatic Matt Moon on the lead up to the gruelling bike ride to Cobar.
“Matt’s charity drive (boots for Fiji) has rubbed off on me a bit,” he said.
“He always talks about the need to set personal goals and I think that has led to this trip.”
The 365km ride from Griffith to Cobar will raise money for two cause close to Mr Lawrence in Cancer Council and batyr.
Mr Lawrence said batyr is all about addressing the elephant in the room and they have been doing work out in Cobar to address one of the burning issues, suicide.
The support and generosity for the local people and business around town is something which has taken Mr Lawrence a back.
“To have complete strangers throw their support behind you is great,” he said.
