Check your couches, under the seats of your cars and the bottom of your washing machines, because it’s that time of a year again when Griffith’s Can Assist Circle of Gold fundraiser kicks off.
The Can Assist committee is asking everyone in the community to put one gold coin aside for March 11 when Griffith Central will be hosting the worthy fundraiser.
“It’s only a gold coin, but we are asking every one to give us one this year,” Can Assist president Olga Forner said.
“Because of the lovely community that is supporting us we are able to give some support, comfort and care when it’s most needed.”
Running for close to 10 years the Circle of Gold has raised close to $40,000.
“That’s very valuable money over a period of 10 years, and that money has gone directly to the community.” Mrs Forner said
“Our aim is to make sure that every one that comes to us is supported in the same away.”
This year the the committee is trying to grow the campaign, calling it “Go gold for our local cancer patients”.
The idea of this is to start collecting coins earlier, making it a more solid fundraiser.
The committee has approached businesses in Griffith leaving a gold tin on their counters.
“All the stores have been overwhelmed and grateful, they have all been concerned and were willing to take a can.”
