Both 16 years old, they have exceeded all expectations in a huge way, by smashing their original goal only $1000 and ending up raising just over $16,500 for the World’s Greatest Shave.
“The day was a great success,a lot of people came to watch – a lot more than expected and I am shocked at how much people donated, it was truly amazing,” Blake said.
They took their courage from their friend Paul Fishenden, who sadly passed away before being able to watch them do the shave.
The pair were joined by Mr Fishenden’s wife, Roz Fishenden, who decided to participate after her husband lost his 12-year battle with cancer.
“Paul was hoping to be there to help the kids shave their heads, but unfortunately he didn’t make it. So in his honour, I decided to take part as well,” Mrs Fishenden said.
She was blown away with the amazing support from friends and family and the wider community, especially those who came down on Saturday to watch.
“A lot of people were surprised that kids so young would actually stand up and want to do something like this. Not a lot of kids would be brave enough to do something so dramatic.”
Emma and Blake’s final count of the donations totaled over $16,500, an “overwhelming” amount proving the huge generosity of the entire Griffith community.
“It feels so good. If anyone asked me to do it all again, I would without hesitation,” Blake said.
The count before the shave was around $12,000, meaning around three and a half grand was donated on the day.
