Dean Gorman and Elizabeth Heffer are extremely proud of their championship matches, with Dean coming away with two gold medals and a silver, and Elizabeth winning a silver and bronze.
“I was very happy, I’ve competed and won NSW State, Act State, Victoria State this year, and then to win at the National’s was a nice finish,” Dean said.
Elizabeth was not deflated at all by not nabbing a gold, and said that every match is a learning curve.
“I don’t see it as loosing, I see it as though I’ve learnt something new and there is always something that I can take away,” Elizabeth said.
The two dedicated competitors have an admiral passion for the sport, and are already preparing for future competitions.
“I am going down to Melbourne in four weeks for the Pan-Pacific's, which is an international competition which will be the last one for the year, and it will be a nice cup to win,” Dean said.
“I have a competition coming up on Sunday, and through my mind I have strategies in my head about how to move forward into a match.” Elizabeth said.
Elizabeth started Jiu Jitsu around four years ago with her son, and has had the taste for it ever since.
Dean has has an on-again off-again love affair with Jiu Jitsu, however is now dedicated to the sport full time.
“It’s probably two and a half years I’ve stuck with it, and I’m obviously really into it now.”
