The group of 10 fighters – which includes juniors Matthew Heffer, Sarah and Thomas Zambon – will compete at the 2016 Victorian Jiu Jitsu State Championship at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on April 23 and 24.
The event will be the first tournament for the majority of the Griffith fighters and because of that coach Peter Moraschi hasn’t put too much pressure on his team.
“It’s all about enjoying ourselves, having fun and mainly it’s just to experience a competition,” Moraschi said.
“Country people who live anywhere around these areas are up against it, we have to travel here there and everywhere for tournaments.”
The BJJ fighters at RMA train under former UFC fighter Anthony Perosh who will be in town – with Carlos Machado – to run a class.
Cost is $100, no experience is necessary and people wishing to attend can book at RMA. Numbers for the class are limited.
