The second Incident Reports Biannual Release for 2016 has shown that there were more than twice as many incidents reported than in 2015 in Griffith Schools.
In 2016, there were a total of 21 incident reports made by Griffith Principals, compared to only 9 incidents from the previous year.
Any student involved in violence at school is subject to the department’s discipline policy and their parents or carer will be notified.

Schools are required to report incidents to the Incident Report and Support Hotline, relating to activities such as violence and weapons, illegal drugs, other criminal activities, natural disasters, suspected suicides and missing students, if there is a concern for their safety.
In the report, the DPE states the number of incidents reported from one date range to the next do vary and it is an expected fluctuation, caused by the relatively small number of incidents reported from more than 2,200 schools with a student population in excess of 790,000.
In response, DET said the state’s schools are “some of the safest places in the community.”

They say that consequently, the percentage variations are not significant and the relatively small number of incidents indicates that schools continue to be one of the safest places for students in our community.
