Griffith's first Survival Day event at the Griffith Regional Aquatic Centre was a raging success, as locals turned out in droves to celebrate community spirit, Wiradjuri culture and most importantly reflect and pay respects to First Nations people.

The event was the first of its kind in the city and was a collaboration between Griffith Local Aboriginal Land Council and Griffith City Council.
Residents enjoyed a host of cultural activities including Didgeridoo playing, indigenous dances, a smoking ceremony and art for elders with artist Kerri Weymouth.
A free barbecue lunch was also provided by volunteers at the X Club, with photobooth fun and part-time DJ and Councillor Chris Sutton on hand to blast to music to move and groove to.

Land Council chairwoman Vickie Simpson it was 'great to see' such a good turn out to the event.
"It has been a really fun day, everyone young and older has been enjoying themselves which has been great to see," Mrs Simpson said.
"I am just so excited that this was finally able to happen.
