Located at the Banna Avenue shopfront, the community food pantry has an assortment of grocery and personal items ranging from weetabix to pasta sauce, sanitary and personal items, fresh fruits and vegetables and more pantry staples and essential items.
The best part is, shoppers can fill up a bag for just $20, stretching what can be limited amounts of money further
Major Lyn Cathcart from Griffith Salvation Army said the pantry provided those in need a means of 'shopping with dignity'.
"Our food pantry has been designed to give people a means of shopping with dignity, they aren't questioned why they are there and their extenuating circumstances," Major Cathcart said.
"Shoppers have the opportunity to browse for products they like and then have the dignity of paying as they are making a contribution towards what they are purchasing," Major Cathcart said.
"We really just want to look after those who are struggling in the community and all money raised goes directly back to welfare and helping people who need it."
Salvation Army member and pantry organiser Carolyn Thomas said the pantry was there for anyone who needed it.
"Often people get more than their money back with their bag full of great items that we get delivered direct each and every week," Mrs Thomas said.
Mrs Thomas also noted that the pantry was always open to donations of good quality, and non expired food and other personal items.
"We are always on the hunt for donations," Mrs Thomas said.
"Donations of fresh fruit and vegetables are especially welcome and these we will give away for free to those who come by."
And following a quiet period post Christmas, Mrs Thomas said the Salvation Army was looking forward to giving the pantry a boost into the New Year.
"We really just want to get it going to support those who are down and out," Mrs Thomas said.
"We don't worry about what is in the bag, we just want to look after our customers."
The Food Pantry is open every Thursday and Friday between 10am and 12pm.
