It was a busy weekend away for the talented Griffith Little Athletics stars who headed to the Western Zone Championship in Finley on Saturday.

It was a soggy and steamy track after Finley copped 40mm of rain in a storm on Friday night, which led to a late start in the track events due to a wet track, but after the track dried out, the day went on without a hitch.
There was plenty on the line for the Athletes who were battling for places at the Regional Championship in Wollongong on February 5-6.
Therese Dal Broi was able to secure passage with firsts in the 70m, 100m, 400m and 60m hurdles, while her sister Mary will join here at Regionals, having qualified with first-placed finishes in the 100m, 800m, 1500m, long jump and senior girls relay.
It was a great day out for the Sarkis family, with three making the cut.
Sebastian Sarkis will complete in the 60m hurdles and shotput after second-place finishes, while brother Xavier qualified with first-place finishes in the 40m hurdles and third in discus.
Madisyn Sarkis made it three with first-place finishes in the 400m, 800m and senior girls relay, second place in long jump and third in the triple jump.
The family success continued Amanda and Bryton Hopkins securing qualification with Amanda securing firsts in 3000m, javelin and senior girls relay and second-place finishes in discus and shot put.
Byrton secured his passage with first-place finishes in the 400m, 70m, discus and shot put.

Marlee Tagliapietra had a great day on the track and in the field, securing first place in the 100m, 80m hurdles, long jump, triple jump and senior girls relay, as well as a third in the shot put, while Kyson Tagliapietra will compete in the discus after finishing second and shot put after a third-place finish.
Conner Hutchins will head away after picking up firsts in discus, javelin and shot put, with his performance in the shot put breaking a record in the under 12 boys with a distance of 10.21m to beat the previous record of 9.70 set in 2018.
Tamzin Watts rounds out the Griffith automatic qualifiers having picked up first place in the 1100m walk and third in the 800m and discus events.
Kyson Tagliapietra and Xavier Sarkis could add events to their schedule depending on the results from the Eastern Zone.
