While it's only early days, already there's been wild summer storms resulting in plenty of humidity.
Warm nights and hot days are on the agenda again this week with temperatures expecting to hover in the mid-30s for the majority of the week.
More rain is predicted and there's no doubting those 40-degree days are on their way at some point this summer.
With that in mind and, the pandemic continuing to impact people's holidays plans, we've put together a list of places to cool off in and around Griffith.
There's plenty of "beaches residents can explore while taking a refreshing dip in the water of the Murrumbidgee River.
With many trees around, there's plenty of shade to have a picnic or laze about on a towel with a good book.
Fishing is also an option and the more adventurous can get a boat out and have a go at water skiing.
Those heading out to the river should always be mindful of their surroundings, practice water safety tips and should no leave any rubbish behind.
Those looking for a more central place for a swim this summer should look no further than the Griffith Regional Aquatic Centre (unless they are among the lucky who have one in their own backyard).
Having been refurbished in recent years, the Griffith pool is the must-be place for a refreshing dip this summer.
It's a cheap option and there's plenty of shade and grass to relax, not to mention smaller indoor and heated pools for the little ones that come complete with new features and an undercover playground.
Let's not forget those moutherwatering hot chippies available from the kiosk, the perfect meal for a summers day!
On a more mild day why not take a leisurely walk up Banna Avenue and explore all the boutiques our town has to offer?
Reward yourself with some authentic Italian Gelato and end your day with a refreshing swim as a reward for your hard work.
The pool also runs a number of aqua exercise classes free to all members or $15.50 for casual visitors. A timetable can be found here.
There are many shady parks scattered throughout Griffith and surrounding suburbs with plenty of play equipment for the kids and barbecue facilities to cook up a sausage sizzle lunch.
However, the crown among these facilities is City Park which has all of these things with the welcome addition of a splash pad.
The splash pad has been popular among children and adults looking to cool off since opening and best part of all, it doesn't cost a dime!
City Park also has a range of playground equipment for all ages to enjoy and a walking track alongside the river where bird lovers will delight in seeing wildlife find a way, and maybe even some baby ducklings too!
Why not head to Gogeldrie Weir?
An oasis in the desert as they say located on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.
Gogeldrie Weir is the ideal located for camping, caravanning or a picnic if you're looking for a relaxing place to stay or even just to visit for the day.
There's plenty of room for a family barbecue or picnic - the electric barbecues are free to use.
Shady trees and lawn areas will also provide the cool spots you're seeking, with plenty of space for a game of footy, cricket or soccer.
Kayaks and bikes can be hired from the office. Of course with the Murrumbidgee River right there, all of the usual water sports, fishing and natural scenery abounds.
Accommodation is also available.
Free day entry is available, but day visitors must register at the office on arrival.
