Rob Sakaria, founder of new Griffith business RS Security, said that he had worked in security in Melbourne for the last decade before completing his master's certificate in security and starting his own company this year.
"I've been in the industry for over a decade, and I moved to Griffith early last year. Got my masters license, I've now got a couple of contracts and a few guys working for me," he explained.
Mr Sakaria said that there was a need for more security services in Griffith, as well as the possibility of providing much-needed jobs.
"We need more people in Griffith to be trained ... There's a lot of people that are interested in doing security but they're not trained up. It's a three-to-five week course to get a security license."
He explained that he'd been trying to organise a training course to come to Griffith for weeks, but had hit a number of hurdles.
"I had organised for a course to run, but it's been cancelled twice. It's meant to be running this month on January 24, I don't see it running. There's a lack of numbers, and others can't make payment as it does cost a bit. It's worth it though."

He explained that the lack of numbers was being caused through scheduling struggles, with most needing to work the course around their existing jobs.
Starting a security business right now is posing it's own problems for Mr Sakaria, who explained that while he'd reached out to COVID testing places to offer his services, there was a net loss in opportunities.
"I would love to get my foot in the door with the council, do some of those events and shows and special events they run but they're not happening at the moment."
