Tom Armstrong was the ringleader of the project, partnering with Griffith City Council and OzFish Australia along with other local businesses to raise enough money to purchase almost 1000 full-grown cod to eliminate any waiting period.
The event was strongly pushed towards introducing children to the joys of fishing, with a jumping castle set up and gift packs of fishing lures and beginning rods donated from BCF in support of the day.
Mr Armstrong said he was pleased to see so many turning out to celebrate in between trips out to release the fish.
Many of the kids enjoyed releasing fish themselves, whether releasing them straight from the shore or taking a trip out in a fishing boat to release them.
The release was originally planned for November 19, but poor weather and COVID-19 meant it was postponed a number of times but from now, the cod are open to be caught!
Fishers are urged to catch and release the cod, so that as many can enjoy a day out fishing as possible, and to ensure that the fish remain long-term.
